Language Training – Volume 5 Issue 4

July 2020 Volume 5 Issue 4

Dear Pastor and praying friends:

2020 is definitely a year for the History Books. The beginning of May, we left Delaware and headed to Texas to spend time with my in-laws, the Klein Family, missionaries to the Mapuche people of Chile & Argentina, who are home on furlough right now. It was a little family reunion, my brother and his wife (who is Lorin’s sister) were also able to come and all the kids had a great time getting to know their Grandparents better. It has been nice being in Texas as most of the churches down here are open for services, it is a huge blessing to be back in church, it sure beats watching online services.

We had our family reunion at the campus of Baptist Bible Translators Institute, in Bowie Texas. My in-laws are 2007-08 graduates of BBTI. During our time visiting, they encouraged us to pray about coming and attending BBTI. We prayed and sought advice from our Pastor, since the door for us to leave for language school is shut due to COVID, he feels this would be the right thing, and we feel that God would have us attend. BBTI’s purpose is to train missionaries to learn Linguistics and the foundations of language and their structure as well as additional things.

Big News:

We have found out that we are expecting our fourth child, due around February-March time frame of next year. This is also something we took into account in making the decision to attend BBTI.  We will have housing and a wonderful place for our children to settle down for a time to do school and not constantly be in their car seats.

If you are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area of Texas or within about 4 hours’ drive and you would like for us to come and stop by please let us know, as we are looking for opportunities to serve in presenting missions and be able to witness to the lost.

At the end of May through the beginning of June, my brother, father in law, brother in law, and myself spent two weeks out in California trying to get my truck out of the repair shop after it being there for 5 months. I had been informed that it was ready for pick up, but it was not and I was given the run around for two weeks before I pulled it out of the shop due to the dishonesty of the mechanic. We are having it towed to a friend’s shop in Tennessee, because of this we had to purchase a van to use, until our truck is fully repaired.

We have had the opportunity to stop by several churches in the DFW area, we had a great time getting to know the people of these wonderful churches.  We currently have 95% support coming in and are praying that God will bring our support to 100% quickly. I praise God for the safety He has provided as we have traveled over 5,000 miles since our last prayer letter.

Please Pray for God’s provision regarding our truck repairs, we have not been able to cover the complete cost at this time.

Family Updates by Lorin

Deacon (5) He has been enjoying being here at BBTI. My parents and younger brother Philip were here for a while and Deacon really enjoyed his time with Uncle Philip. Riding horses, going for hikes on the trails, swinging, climbing poles up to a platform that is about 20+ feet in the air and more. He was also able to have his cousin Quinton here as well. Their play included mud puddles, playing in horse troughs, attacked by red fire ants, giving mommy poison ivy, catching frogs and turtles, and more. Deacon is loving his freedom from the car and can just run and play till his heart is content. He also has proved himself to be a good and hard worker. He is loving to do dishes lately and if there is any work going on outside, he is out there with his cowboy boots working as hard as he can. Deacon is excited about the new baby. He wants a baby sister.

Eden (4) She finally has her own room and her own bed! She is so excited and if someone goes in without her permission, she lets everyone know. She also has been enjoying the freedom. Running and playing on the playground. She loved her time with her cousin Jenny, and they had a blast in the blow up pool. Eden loves beetles and different types of bugs. She grabs water bottles and makes “homes” for them. She is a pokie magnet and all of her dresses and skirts are covered on the hem. It isn’t fun when she has them brush against her leg. Eden is sooo excited and ready for the new baby to be here. She wants a baby sister.

Enoch (17 m) He is a walker!! He barely crawls anymore. He has 2 pairs of soft sole shoes that he loves so he always grabs them and heads outside. He is also really enjoying his freedom. He is an outdoors child. He loves mud, rocks, bugs, sticks, water, sand, anything he can get his hands on and he likes to taste everything as well. More like eat. We call him Mr. Tornado because he goes from one thing to another and doesn’t stop. He also experienced red fire ants. He came to mommy saying “oh, oh, ouch” and I thought he stepped on a rock until I looked at his legs. I quickly brushed them off to take him to the bathroom to find that they landed on my feet. Ouch!!  A new thing he likes to do is after his siblings leave, he will find their card games and go and try to hide cards in different spots. Then he sees if they can find them. Thankfully they have all been found. We have to keep them up out of reach. He isn’t sure about being a big brother, he doesn’t comprehend it yet.

New Baby (Due 2021) We are excited to announce!! God knew we needed something sweet and encouraging during this crazy time. This is the first grandchild my mom was able to be the first person to know about and she was ecstatic. But, little one, please give mommy rest and not so much morning sickness.

I Thessalonians 5:25 “Brethren, pray for us.”

Prayer Requests:

  • For Lorin and I as we begin our study at BBTI.
  • Lorin and the New Baby.
  • For the many Churches that have said they would like to take us on for support, pray God would enable them to have the finances to support us.
  • For our current supporting churches as some are having financial struggles.
  • We will raise the support needed to go to the field, and that we can be done with deputation quickly.
  • For the People of Mozambique that God would work even now in the hearts and lives of the people to prepare them for the Gospel.
  • For our ability to learn quickly as we begin to study Portuguese.
  • For our continued good health, so that there will be no setbacks on the Deputation Trail.
  • That our Spiritual lives will remain close to God, for us to grow each day closer to him, and not stray from His will or be caught up in the snares of the Devil.
